Everyone’s smelling salts are different. Ours are a combination of ammonium carbonate and sodium carbonate. Our ingredients are lab grade and made in the USA. We only use the finest ingredients to ensure safety, efficacy and customer satisfaction.
Smelling salts are generally safe when used in moderation and as directed. However, excessive or prolonged exposure to ammonia can cause irritation to the nose, lungs, and eyes, and overuse can lead to dizziness. It’s essential to follow the instructions and not use them for extended periods.
Smelling salts provide a quick burst of alertness by triggering a reflex in your nervous system when inhaled. The sharp smell activates the body’s respiratory system, increasing breathing rate and heart rate, which can help improve focus and awareness.
No, smelling salts are not considered a drug. They are categorized as stimulants due to their ability to temporarily heighten alertness, but they are not classified as a controlled substance.
We didn’t leave. Amazon pulled smelling salts, even though its own prohibited products documents don’t say they’re prohibited. Our listing was an Amazon “Overall Pick” with a 4.0-star rating and 3,000+ bought in a month, and it came down anyway.
Most of what’s still on Amazon comes from overseas resellers whose listings will probably get deleted too. If a smelling salts listing shows hundreds of reviews, look closely: it’s usually a repurposed listing, with reviews carried over from a different product.
The full story is in our note on Amazon’s crackdown on smelling salts.

Smelling salts work by releasing ammonia gas, which irritates the membranes of the nose and lungs. This irritation triggers an inhalation reflex that increases oxygen intake, which in turn stimulates the brain and body, creating an instant sense of alertness.
Smelling salts are used to quickly revive someone from fainting, provide an energy boost during athletic performance, or sharpen focus in high-intensity situations. They are particularly popular among athletes, such as powerlifters and hockey players, who need rapid bursts of energy and concentration.

Pre-activated smelling salts have already been mixed and are ready to use straight out of the bottle. However, they are often considered inferior because they could have been activated months before you actually use them, leading to a loss of potency over time. Non-activated smelling salts, on the other hand, allow you to activate the ingredients right when you need them, ensuring maximum freshness and effectiveness with every use. Non-activated salts give you control over when the powerful ammonia scent is released, providing a more reliable and stronger performance boost.
