Smelling salts for wrestlers and fighters

Note 19

Smelling salts for wrestlers and fighters

Walkouts, weigh-ins, and a bottle that shuts.

Wrestling rooms and fight-week hallways are the same problem as a hockey bench, just warmer. You need the next exchange, not a two-hour mood. Smelling salts — ammonia inhalants — are the short switch.

Walkouts and weigh-ins

A walkout is a lighting cue and a heartbeat. One inhale off a bottle you already know is enough. Do not make it a show for the camera. The ref does not score the sniff.

After a hard cut, people reach for anything that feels like blood coming back. Ammonia will not rehydrate you. It will not fix a bad weight. It will clear the fog for a minute so you can get through the next instruction. Use it that way or leave it in the bag.

A bottle that survives a gym bag

Combat gyms destroy loose caps. Ampules become a pile. A multi-use bottle with a shut cap is the version that is still there on Saturday. Bardown ships non-activated so the first hit of the weekend is not last month’s air.

How to use it is three steps. The bottle is one.
