Note 18
What “strongest smelling salts” actually means
Strength is not a slogan. It is whether the bottle is still alive when you open it.
“Strongest smelling salts” is a phrase people type into Google when they want a bottle that still works. It is also a phrase brands use when they have nothing else to say. Strength, here, is not a Scoville number. It is whether ammonia is still coming off the blend when you crack the cap.
What actually makes a hard hit
Freshness. A tight cap. A blend that was not activated in July for an order you placed in October. Lab-grade ammonium carbonate does not need a skull on the label. It needs to still be ammonium carbonate.
Pre-activated bottles can feel loud on day one and polite by week six. Ampules are strong once. A non-activated, multi-use bottle starts when you start it. That is the only “strongest” that survives a season.
How to judge a brand
Do they say what is in it? Do they say when it becomes live? Do they ship a cap that closes? If the copy is only “nuclear” and a discount code, keep walking.
Bardown is ammonium carbonate and sodium carbonate, made in the USA, quiet until water. That is the pitch. Get the bottle if you want to test it against the slogan you already bought.
