The hit

A short, sharp breath.

Ammonia, an inhalation reflex, and then the thing you opened the bottle for. Not a pre-workout. Not a drug. Not a six-hour ride.

The breath

Ammonia gas off the blend. A short inhale at the neck of the bottle.

The lamp

Breathing picks up. Alertness picks up with it. That window is the product.

The work

The shift, the rep, the walk-out. The bottle does not do those for you.

What it is

Bardown is an ammonia inhalant. The blend is ammonium carbonate and sodium carbonate, lab grade, made in the United States. You do not drink it. You do not put it in a drink. You pass a short breath over the neck of the bottle.

What it does

Ammonia irritates the membranes in the nose and lungs. That triggers an inhalation reflex: a sharper breath, a little more air, a quick rise in alertness. Athletes use that window to lock in — before a shift, a lift, or a match.

What it does not do

It will not replace sleep, food, or a program. It will not give you energy for hours. The hit is short and sharp. That is the point. Anyone selling a long ride is selling something else.

Hands, cap, a short breath

How to use it

  1. 01

First open only: add half a capful of water. A splash, not a drink.

  2. 02

Close it and shake. The ammonia comes up off the blend.

  3. 03

Open it at a distance, then bring it gradually closer to your face.

  4. 04

Inhale through your nose. Gently. You are not trying to pull the bottle into your lungs.

  5. 05

Close it tightly. Two or three times per session is the limit. Then go to work.

Responsible use

For adult athletes. Keep it away from children. Ammonia irritates the nose, the eyes, and the lungs when you linger — that irritation is the mechanism, and it is also the limit. Do not sit with the bottle under your nose. If it bothers you, stop.
